Why addiction? "Why can't I control my drinking and drink like a normal person?" "Why can't my loved one stop? If they loved me enough they would stop for me." "Why can't she just use her willpower? Is she mentally defective?" "Can you help me stop for a while so I can just clean up my act?" These are a few questions we get asked by people we help. And the simple truth is that addiction is a disease, an illness that can be treated, just as diabetes or heart disease can be treated but can not be cured. And left untreated the individual will either end up in an institution, homeless or in jail. Or worse: dead.
Can you relate? Maybe you are able to stop drinking or using drugs, but staying stopped is the challenge. Maybe no one knows how much you really drink and how much turmoil you feel inside. You know you need help, but aren’t ready to go to a 12-Step group where you may have to speak in front of others or maybe see someone you know. Your privacy is of great concern. You may feel you can’t take time to go to a rehab — you have too many responsibilities that prevent you from going to rehab for 90 days or more.
We can help. If you can relate to any of these statements, we can help. At La Promessa we will cater a Treatment Programme with your needs in mind. We will support you through detox and provide you with a programme that works for you. We will teach you how to live happily and healthy without substances or behavioral disorders. *We also treat Italian speaking clients. (See our website www.lapromessa.org in Italian.)
